The Stillorgan Wednesday Summer Singles came to its conclusion this evening.
The ninth and final week of the league saw an exciting fight for the top spot, with four players in realistic contention.
Leader Barry Brown had pre-bowled his final three games, with Kevin Fitzgerald, Jason Byrnes and Jim Donagh all in the hunt to catch him.
Fitzgerald started the night closest to Brown, with Byrnes 34 pins behind him and Donagh a further 15 pins back.
In the end it came down to the final frame of the final game, with Fitzgerald and Byrnes neck-and-neck in their pursuit of Brown's final total.
Both players palyed well under the pressure in the final games, but it was Byrnes who eventually pipped it, shooting a final games of 231 to take the league victory by 3 pins over Fitzgerald, who posted a final game of 223 to beat Brown into second palce by just a further 5 pins.
